ChuLip Lip Balm SPF22 in sweet Pink

I picked this up in back in may last year in my Japan trip… I’ve been quite slow in trying the items I’ve purchased in Japan. part of me wants to dig in but a big part of me just want to look at the pretty stuff and keep them in excellent condition!  I mean, just look at how cute this thing is!

Love the lip outline and the teardrop shape!
But, nothing can remain best forever…

Here’s a bit of an unboxing / unpackaging to get the full experience:

All the text is pretty much in Japanese. except the “Made in Japan” is in English. I’ve observed that a lot of Japanese products have nearly all Japanese text b7ut that statement is always shown in English – wonder why that is?

I really appreciate how much thought they put into making it easy for the customer to open the packaging.  Just pull down on that tab that says “Open”.

Compared to the Lip Smacker Tsum Tsums that I got last month – when I went to open those, I had to use kitchen shears to cut through the outer packaging!

The lip balm itself is a bubblegum pink with a pearl shimmer, and it even smells like bubblegum!  This is probably one of my much-loved smelling lip balms ideal now – very nostalgic!  There’s no obvious taste – sweet, chemical, or otherwise.

I know what you’re thinking: this is the Japanese version of EOS! Biraz:

Here’s how it looks next to the EOS in St. Bart’s Sunrise flavour (Pink Grapefruit) from the Rachel Roy collection (check out my old EOS collection here – I tossed out a lot of them now).

One of the reasons why I wanted to get this was due to the sunscreen  – SPF22 in a lip product isn’t easy to find here in North America. A lot of the ones with sunscreen I see are either very low SPF that look great on the lips, or high SPF, but leaves a white film on the lips. this one does not look white on the lips.

Another reason why I got this was that it’s tinted. EOS recently launched shimmer colours that are tinted but they look incredibly frosty. this one has some shimmer but does not look frosty in any way on the lips. On me, it supplies a hint of pink that’s slightly lighter than my natural lip colour. This reminds me a bit of the Sephora Kiss Me Balms in the colour pay-off, but slightly a lot more shiny.

And yes, the cap looks a bit like a nipple.
I’m quite addicted to this – it made my final favourites list of the last quarter in 2016 – and I have been using it a lot of mornings. I like using a lip liner in a MLBB shade and then applying the ChuLip sweet Pink on top.

The ingredient list:

Olive fruit oil, toriisostealin, synthetic wax, Ceresin, hydrogenated polyisobutene, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, vaseline, bissiglycerillpolyasilazipert-2, Shea oil, microcrystalline wax, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, rosehip oil, toriisostealin acid polyglyceryl-2, pentylene glycol, menthol, cinnamyl Ascorbic tetrahexildecane acid, tocopheryl acetate, tocopherol, sucralose, hydroxide AL, Dimethicone, 226 red, red 218, synthetic fluorphlogopite, titanium dioxide, mica, fragrance

The active sunscreen ingredient is in the form of titanium dioxide, which indicates it’s a physical (mineral) sunscreen – which is my preferred type of sunscreen.

ChuLip lip balm is made in Japan and it cost ¥600 (~C$6.90) for 7g of product. I gotten mine at Matsumoto KiYoshi (drugstore) in Tokyo.  If you’re not headed to Japan anytime soon, I’ve seen this on Amazon and eBay for around $13 USD.  Besides this sweet Pink shade, there are 2 other shades available: brilliant Pink, and Peach Pink. ChuLip launched their untinted regular line of spherical lip balms in 2015 and have considering that expanded to include the tinted SPF version as well as limited edition collections such as the Disney Tsum Tsums:

I absolutely want to get my hands on one of those!  ChuLip’s parent company is Rohto, which is popular for their cooling eye drops.  Fun fact: “Chu” indicates “kiss” in Japanese.

Have you heard of ChuLip lip balms before? What’s your much-loved tinted lip balm?
